What we do

Leasing

SMBC Aviation Capital works closely with its airline customers to provide them the capital and aircraft they require to successfully grow their businesses. We lease aircraft to airlines across the globe, from long-established national flag carriers to dynamic start-ups. We are a solutions orientated partner with an emphasis on helping our airline customers manage their dynamic fleet and aircraft financing requirements.

Trading

We actively trade aircraft to investors and if required, offer the full services of our platform as lease manager. We also acquire portfolios of aircraft from investors who may be looking to realise their investment.

The many investors who acquire assets from us know that they will benefit from a combination of good quality, well maintained and well placed aircraft on good contracts.

Trading helps us manage the metrics of our portfolio, including aircraft age enabling us to keep our portfolio of aircraft assets dynamic, active and relevant to our customers.

Asset Management

SMBC Aviation Capital is a full-service leasing platform and we can offer these capabilities to investors looking to acquire, manage or sell aircraft. We currently provide a broad range of lease management and remarketing services for investors worldwide.

Secured Aircraft Financing

At SMBC Aviation Capital we also have the financial ability, skills and product range of our shareholders. Working together we can bring a wider range and combination of leasing, financing and investor products to our customers. Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation and its subsidiaries can provide secured aircraft financing, export credit financing, Pre-Delivery Payment financing as well as arranging Japanese Operating Leases together with Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Lease Co.

Technical Asset Management

In a typical year, we deliver in excess of 60 new and used aircraft to our customers around the world. Our Technical Asset Management team consists of 20 engineers with a variety of backgrounds who are responsible for managing the aircraft across its lifecycle from the manufacturers delivery centre until it reaches the end of its lease or economic life.

We will manage every aspect of the delivery process to the airline and work closely with the OEM on the detailed technical aspects of the delivery, the quality control and the oversight of all of the associated documentation. The team also monitors aircraft when they are on lease with frequent technical reviews.

During its lifecycle, an aircraft may be leased from one airline to another on multiple occasions. In this case, it will undergo a transition modification programme. Much of this work takes place at an Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility where any maintenance or modification work is completed to customise the aircraft for the next operator.

A typical modification programme involves significant work to the external features and internal layout of the aircraft. This includes paint work and new livery, alongside interior redesign such as galley and seat installation and new or improved aircraft systems to address the airline's future needs.

Our suppliers and MROs around the world work closely with us to deliver and meet an airline's specific requirements. Along with pre-planning, we also project manage the process to ensure that the delivery of the aircraft is on schedule and on budget.
