SVP Innovation

The Nest is SMBC Aviation Capital’s Innovation Hub. The vision of The Nest is to create a competitive advantage and to de-risk the current business model.  To achieve this, The Nest aims to identify new opportunities that add value, nurture an innovative mind-set in the business and to question conventional wisdom.

More specifically, the team:

  • Identifies innovation opportunities for the business
  • Applies appropriate methods to explore and validate potential opportunities  
  • Maintains a balanced portfolio of projects with a focus on transformational and adjacent opportunities 
  • Enables learning, collaboration and new ways of working across the organisation  
  • Brings in external perspectives, ideas & opportunities  

Shocks to the aviation industry, a highly competitive market, and the sustainability issue are amplifying the need for innovation and differentiation. We now have a vacancy for a SVP Innovation to join The Nest on a 12 month contract based in Dublin.  This is an exciting opportunity for the right person to join a small, dynamic team within an exciting industry, and to help SMBC Aviation Capital create new value for its stakeholders. The team reports directly to the CEO.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage an innovation pipeline from idea sourcing through to prototyping and execution/transition to the business
  • Through staff engagement, customer insight gathering, research and “low-signal processing”, maintain a pipeline of new ideas for potential exploration
  • Apply Design Thinking and other appropriate frameworks to assess and test new ideas
  • Cultivate a future-looking mind-set within the business through creative staff engagement and effective communication of the activities of The Nest

Experience, Skills & Attributes

You will have a track record of successfully managing innovation projects from early-stage idea to validated prototype. You will have 5+ years' experience in an entrepreneurial, new business development or corporate innovation setting.

  • An investigative nature, with ability to design, conduct and interpret customer research
  • Experience in designing and facilitating collaborative sessions
  • Skilled in developing early-stage ideas into testable value propositions
  • Ability to design and make digital mock-ups/prototypes a distinct advantage
  • Ability to create business plans/models
  • Demonstrable communication skills to bring multiple stakeholders on the innovation journey
  • Skilled in creating and delivering presentations
  • Commercially focused with experience in pitching, prospecting, and selling
  • Experience in the aviation industry is an advantage
  • Knowledge of sustainability factors for businesses in general and aviation specifically, an advantage
  • Curious; open, creative thinker
