Vice President - Credit Risk - Americas Region

Overview of the Team and Role

The successful candidate, based in Miami, U.S.A, will be part of a global team of 12 analysts.

The Credit Risk team is an integral part of the on-going risk management of SMBC-AC's global portfolio. The role of the Credit Risk team can be broken into three broad areas:

1. New transactions – assess counterparty risk; internal credit process

2. Portfolio management – monitor/manage credit risk, “avoid surprises”

3. Monitor and debate analysis of general macro and competitive environment

Given the specialised technical nature and cyclicality of our customers’ underlying business, there is a need to have dedicated professionals who understand the aviation business to conduct the credit risk process. This internal skill set ensures that SMBC-AC is able to achieve a fast turnaround for approving transactions but also deal with specific airline issues in a timely fashion.

The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring airlines and the aviation environment in the Americas region. Delivering insights on the general market dynamic and on specific airline issues as they arise is a key element of this role, as is building a network of relationships (customers and non-customers) to further inform these views.

IT Internship

Overview of the Team and Role

SMBC Aviation Capital has undergone significant growth over the past number of years.

In parallel, SMBC Aviation Capital has undergone a major IT transformation project consisting of a complete re-engineering of the infrastructure, backend process, systems and a data consolidation and validation initiative. The SMBC Aviation Capital IT Team of highly skilled and experienced IT professionals are responsible for the ongoing support and development of the new ICT landscape in addition to supporting day to day business operations.

Over the past number of years SMBC Aviation Capital have selected a small number of high-flying graduates looking for opportunities in the fast-paced, global and dynamic business of aircraft leasing. This year one of the successful candidates will join the SMBC Aviation Capital IT Team.

This is a unique opportunity for a candidate with vision, energy and ambition, to grow, develop and define the shape of their IT career. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the IT team and will gain exposure to all facets of IT within SMBC Aviation Capital including IT Operations, Infrastructure, Application Development, Business Intelligence, Big Data, Project Management and Vendor Management.

Marketing Support Officer - APAC

Overview of the Team and Role

Based in Hong Kong (China) and reporting to the Regional Manager, Airline Marketing APAC, the Marketing Support Officer will provide analysis and general support to the Airline Marketing Team, with a focus on Asia Pacific. The Airline Marketing team is tasked with managing the re-lease of owned and managed aircraft for SMBC Aviation Capital's fleet, managing the placement of SMBC Aviation Capital's order positions with airlines, sourcing select new sale and leaseback investment opportunities for the company and developing and maintaining excellent relationships with the world's airlines.

The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring airlines and the aviation environment in the APAC region. Delivering insights on the general market dynamic and on specific airline issues as they arise is a key element of this role, as is building a network of relationships (customers and non-customers) to further inform these views.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse individual airlines both quantitatively and qualitatively for the purposes of assessing their suitability for new business and use this analysis to actively take a role in the decision making process on new transactions within the Deal Team process
  • Conduct on-site due diligence meetings with airline customers and prepare all necessary internal approval documentation (including Credit Applications & Annual Reviews) for new, existing or restructuring transactions
  • Liaise with all necessary internal departments within the business and its shareholders to ensure appropriate approvals are obtained for all transactions, and lead the credit approval process for these transactions as required
  • Monitor existing and potential airline customers and their markets for the purposes ofensuring that there are “no surprises” with regard to their credit quality
  • Prepare ad hoc reports / notes / other papers as required

Qualifications & Experience

  • At least 3-5 years’ experience in credit/ equity analysis (in a given sector of expertise), preferably in the APAC region, taking a macro view of the sector as well as a micro view of an individual company/ customer
  • Fluent in Mandarin and English
  • Knowledge of the aviation sector and an ability to discuss the market dynamic and future shape of the airline sector per region would be advantageous
  • Broad understanding of aviation lease and finance transaction structures (operating leasing, sale & leaseback, commercial debt) desirable
  • Strong problem solving and financial skills including an ability to read, interpret and critically analyse financial accounts
  • Qualifications such as CPA, CFA or a MBA are desirable
  • Proven track record working in a fast paced, dynamic, service orientated environment
  • High competency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

The SMBC Aviation Capital Information & Technology Team of highly skilled and experienced IT and business professionals are responsible for the development of the new Information and Technology landscape in addition to supporting day to day business operations.

The successful candidate will be an integral part of the I&T team within SMBC Aviation Capital and will have proven experience in leading/delivering BI/DWH projects within Medium / Large organisations and an ability to work as part of a team in realising the company’s vision around data use. The role will include working hand in hand with the Business Units on BI requirements gathering and Business information needs analysis, understanding these key business requirements and translating them into a solution design, with the ability to lead and participate in the implementation of this design.

Vice President Commercial Negotiation – Asia Pacific - Hong Kong based

Overview of the Team and Role

The Commercial Negotiation team at SMBC Aviation Capital is primarily responsible for leading the negotiation and project management of our aircraft leasing, financing, sales and purchase transactions at contract stage. The successful candidate will report into the Senior Vice President & Regional Manager Commercial Negotiation – Asia Pacific, and work alongside Airline Marketing, Aircraft Trading, Technical and Credit Risk colleagues, who are all based in our Hong Kong office. In addition, the successful candidate will have significant cross-over responsibilities with other functions and in particular with colleagues based in our Dublin office.

You will be a member of a team that blends both youth and experience, composed of individuals from a range of professional backgrounds (e.g. legal, finance, engineering). You will be an integral part of our cross-functional “Deal Teams” that structure and execute the transactions that build our business and that allow our clients to succeed. This role will give you unparalleled exposure to senior management here and at our customers, and to the full range of transactions that shape our industry. Significant international travel may be required, sometimes at short notice.

Contract Data Analyst (12 Month Contract)

The Business Information Team is responsible for collecting, controlling and ensuring consistency of all core information in the business in relation to our fleet of owned and managed aircraft and aircraft leases. The information is then used within the business to provide management and financial information to and between the business and key stakeholders including Marketing teams, Finance, Senior Management; Shareholders and Third party stakeholders such as auditors, regulators, financiers and professional advisors.

The Contract Data Analyst will work with similar roles within the team and will be responsible for controlling information around contract data held in our administration systems.

This is an extremely important role as it has responsibilities for keeping the current contracted position of an aircraft up to date on our systems. A key objective of the Business Information team is to maintain the integrity of the data held in our systems and this role is integral to achieving that objective.

Forecast Analyst

Overview of Role

This position, within our Financial and Portfolio Planning (FPP) team, is focused on 2 main activities:

  • Financial forecasting for formal business plans and of a routine nature, and
  • Forecasting for specific business purposes or to make portfolio management recommendations.
