Vice President Investor Relations & Funding

Overview of the role:

Since our inception in 2001, our shareholders have been our primary debt providers. Today, our shareholder funding represents c. 50% of our total debt funding requirements. While we expect that our shareholder will continue to be our primary debt provider, in order to provide us with increased flexibility and scale to finance our future growth plans, our strategy is to develop a more diversified range of financing sources for a proportion of our funding requirements. In this regard, we issued our inaugural $500m senior unsecured bond in July 2016, followed up by a second issuance of a $500m senior unsecured bond in July 2017.

The Funding team is responsible for the raising of our third party financing, managing our relationship with our external debt investors and to support our internal relationship with our shareholders

Credit Risk Analyst - APAC

Overview of Credit Risk Team and Role

The Credit Risk team is an integral part of the on-going risk management of SMBC-AC. The role of the Credit Risk team can be broken into three broad areas:

1. New transactions – assess counterparty risk; internal credit process.

2. Portfolio management – monitor/manage credit risk, avoid surprises.

3. Monitor general macro and competitive environment.

Given the specialised technical nature and cyclicality of our customers’ underlying business, there is a need to have dedicated professionals who understand the aviation business to conduct the credit risk process. This internal skill set ensures that SMBC-AC is able to achieve a fast turnaround for approving transactions but also deal with specific airline issues in a timely fashion.

The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring airlines and the aviation environment in a dedicated global region. Delivering insights on the general market dynamic and on specific airline issues as they arise is a key element of this role, as is building a network of relationships (customers and non-customers) to further inform these views.

Commercial Negotiator (Maternity Leave Cover)

Overview of the role

The Commercial Negotiation (CN) team at SMBC AC is primarily responsible for leading the negotiation and project management of our aircraft leasing, financing, sales and purchase transactions at contract stage. An opportunity now exists to join the team on a temporary basis to cover a maternity leave absence. You will be part of a diverse team composed of individuals from a range of professional backgrounds (e.g. finance, legal, engineering). You will be an integral part of our cross-functional “Deal Teams” that structure and execute the transactions that build our business and that allow our clients to succeed. This role, reporting to the Head of Commercial Negotiation, will give you unparalleled exposure to senior management here and at our customers, and to the full range of transactions that shape our industry.

You are likely to be a rising star in your field with the qualifications, skills and ambition to become a hugely experienced Aircraft financing executive. You will share our desire to achieve excellence in meeting our corporate objectives and those of our ambitious shareholders. You will be ready to start developing an in-depth knowledge of our industry and an ability to understand the commercial drivers behind aircraft finance and the needs of our customers.

Transaction Execution (Portfolio Management)

Overview of the Team and Role

The Transaction Execution team is a customer-facing team, primarily responsible for leading the project management of our aircraft leasing, purchase and other related transactions between contract signature and delivery. An exciting new area of responsibility for the Transaction Execution Team is the extension of its remit to the project management of certain customer requests that arise during the lease of an aircraft. Based in Dublin and part of a team of 8, the successful candidate will, amongst other responsibilities, spearhead this transition, creating a best in class procedure for responding to such customer requests; building and maintaining customer satisfaction through prompt and efficient project management.

This is a key customer facing role with exposure to SMBC Aviation Capital’s customer base together with the world’s largest aircraft manufacturers, law firms, and SMBC Aviation Capital senior management. You are likely to have a proven track record in your field, be highly motivated and energetic, with experience of drafting and managing precedents.
